Turkey 3 Angola 2
After a first half where the Palancas looked and played like a World Cup team, things fell apart in the second half. Leading 1-0 at the break thanks to an Akwa goal, Angola gave up two goals that were the result of defensive breakdowns. Love did pick up the equalizer in the 83rd minute, but Turkey’s Halil Altintop gave his team the win less than a minute later.
This is a disappointing loss because it was a game Angola could have won or tied. The team looked good in the first half with the defense and midfield playing better than they did against Argentina. Things then fell apart.
The second half was sloppy and disorganized. The backline looked confused on many occasions. I am not as upset with the loss as with the way we played the final 45 minutes. Playing with three in the backline just doesn’t look like it is going to work. The midfield needs five players but I’m not sure we have five that are capable.
Our team is better than that and it will need to play better to get a result in Germany. Keep the faith!

I was stunned with the fact that turkey scored goals at will. Was this the same defense that played against Argentina? They were weak. I am very disappointed!

Dido, this was not a good result for you team coming so close to the WC.
I wish Angola all the best in the WC. Spring some upsets!

These are good results Martin; both Argentina and Turkey matcehs. To be honest, I didn’t expect this much before.

Damon, don’t get me wrong, the result against Argentina was a good one. Only 2-0 against one of the superpowers of world football.
Turkey was good too. Turkey can count themselves unlucky not to be in the WC.
The only thing is, you would like to have some confidence building wins to go along with these results.

Angola played ok. Their first goal looked offside to me and their second goal was very lucky. But in saying that, 1-0 at half time was probably fair as they did better than a unsure Turkey outfit. I honestly thought that Turkey was the team that created the more genuine chances and converted. I think Angola with its quick forwards can cause some headaches at the WC, but after watching this match I was more dissapointed with fact that Turkey aren’t there. Good luck Angola, Africans always add somthing extra to the WC.

Angola dominated the first half but the coach changed the formation at half time playing with 3 defenders. This was the turning point because Turkey scored a couple.

The Angolan national team is, perhaps, the most pampered on earth. After the qualified for the world cup, businessmen and the Luanda nouveau riche were falling all over themselves to give them thousands of dollars. There is even talk that the team has received as much as 12 million US dollars. This in a country where over two thousand people have just died of Cholera. I only hope that these spoilt tycoons will have enough energy to honour our country.
