Scolari: Angola is 2nd Strongest Opponent in Group
Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has some thoughts on the strength of the teams in Group D. “After Mexico, Angola is our 2nd strongest opponent. Finally, Iran is our weakest opponent in the group stage,” Scolari said.
These are very frank words by Scolari and I’m sure some players and coaches in Iran will take notice of them. I happen to agree with his assessment but I think Iran is a dangerous team that could very well pull off a surprise this year, especially if a team like Portugal takes them too lightly.
Scolari also said: “Angola rely on their players physical strength and Iran on their technical qualities. That’s why it’s easier for us to play against these two teams than Mexico.”
Again, he may be right, but I’m surprised he has come out and said this before the World Cup. It tells me that Scolari is fairly confident that his team is the best team in the group. Only time will tell if that is the case.

The Angolan squad has been announced. Many forwards were selected (he should have taken more midfielders, 5 is not enough). http://www.angolapress-angop.ao/noticia.asp?ID=440205
