Nigerian Sour Grapes
Nigeria might be a lovely country, but boy are its football journalists arrogant. Still smarting over their team’s failure to qualify for the World Cup and failure to win the African Nations Cup, Nigeria’s press is taking potshots at the teams that are headed to Germany. Case in point, these words today describing Angola’s CAN performance.
The early exit of surprise World Cup finalists, the Palancas Negras of Angola at the championship proved that team does not deserve the Germany 2006 ticket.
Actually, I beg to differ. Instead of judging Angola on one tournament, how about we judge the team on its World Cup qualifying - you know, the thing that actually counts. Angola finished with 6 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw and - CAN YOU HEAR ME NIGERIAN JOURNALISTS - the team finished ahead of Nigeria in qualifying. End of story. We’re in and you’re out. Enjoy those sour grapes while you watch us on television.
