Maurito Lost for World Cup

May 2nd, 2006 | By: WC Bob | 3 Comments »

Grrrr…Angola forward Maurito has been injured and will miss the World Cup. The striker sustained ligament damage last week during Al Wahda’s AFC Champions League match against Saba Battery of Iran.

“The injury is the same as the one suffered by Xavi at Barcelona,” an Al Wahda club spokesman said on Tuesday. “We think he will be out for six months but we are waiting for the final conclusion.”

This injury makes it even more important for Pedro Mantorras to be on the squad and on the field. It also means that we might need to see more of Love, a player I have been touting for weeks.

I feel really bad for Maurito. It is a shame to see him miss out on his World Cup dream.

What a disaster! Our hopes of producing an upset are almost gone.

[...] A double whammy for Group D opponents Angola. First they lose Maurito, and then they get the news about Gilberto. [...]

Thinking positively, its not such a bad lost after all. Angola already have too many forwards anyway (Akwa, Mantorras, Mateus, Flavio, Love etc) and all it means is that another proven goalscorer will take his place. I do feel sorry for Maurito as he could be missing his only chance to play at the World Cup.
