For many people around the world, the one player from Angola they will probably remember the most this World Cup is keeper Joao Ricardo. The 36-year-old was simply spectacular in goal for the Palancas, only giving up 2 goals in three games. A look at FIFA’s statistics after the first round shows that he was tied atop the list of keepers with the most saves.
JOAO RICARDO (ANG) 21
KAWAGUCHI Yoshikatsu (JPN) 21
AGASSA Kossi (TOG) 17
ZUBERBUEHLER Pascal (SUI) 17
Even though he is getting up there in age, Ricardo showed that he is a capable shot stopper and that he deserves to be in goal for some team, somewhere. Here’s hoping he gets picked up by a club soon.
