Goals, We Need Goals

120 minutes and not a single goal. While I am immensely proud of Angola’s effort thus far in the World Cup, I would like to see a goal celebration or two from our guys sometime soon.

By leaving Akwa alone in the attack, coach Goncalves has bolstered our midfield and defense a bit. We’ve only yielded one goal so far. That is working. But it is working largely because Ricardo has been phenomenal in goal.

What isn’t working is our attack. The one forward formation is leaving Akwa on an island and he isn’t getting enough support to really do much. Against Iran, the fact is that we will need to score to win. We need to win to stay alive in this tournament.

The Professor is a wise man and he must realize this as well. It is time to bolster the offense. It is time to put in another forward and to at least make an effort to attack. If we don’t, we might be looking at 210 minutes without a goal and we might be looking at a flight home from Germany.

Goncalves needs to play Flavio and Love in attack and leave Akwa on the bench to come on as a sub. He should let the goalie, the defenders and the defensive midfielder, take care of the defending. That would leave us with a 5 men attack.

Akwa has displayed the skills of an offensive MF. He’s not a true FW I don’t think. Perhaps Coach should consider playing 4×3x1×2, that 1 being Akwa. Those 2 could be Flavio and Mantorras, or Flavio and Love. Flavio is still one of our best scorers, remember that Akwa was scoreless at the African Cup, and Flavio picked up his slack.

Hi Pasha, congratulations on the tie, it certainly felt like a loss for us and a win for you guys. Great game.

I have a few pointers for the upcoming gmae.

Iran is a hard oponent, we where tied to them almost the entire game.

Portugal will not play 6 of their starters, (Deco, Ronaldo and Pauletta being 3 of them) because of their yellow cards.

Still a win against Iran could be a huge boost for you guys, too bad Mexico and Angola can’t advance to the second round.
