Eto’o 3 Angola 1

January 21st, 2006 | By: WC Bob | No Comments »

Angola had high expectations coming into its opening match of the African Nations Cup against Cameroon, but Samuel Eto’o quickly doused the Palancas Negras’ optimism. The Barcelona striker scored three goals to lead Cameroon to a 3-1 victory in Cairo. Flávio netted the lone goal for Angola, converting a penalty in the 31st minute.

The result is a disappointing one for Angola, but stopping Eto’o is a challenge for any team in the world. What is more disconcerting is the way that Cameroon controlled the run of play. Angola lacked possession, which is usually one of the team’s strengths.

This is certainly a setback, but there is still a lot of action remaining at the CAN. I am confident that Angola will bounce back from this defeat and bring glory to the country.

Here’s a match report.
