Disaster! Gilberto Likely to Miss World Cup

March 28th, 2006 | By: WC Bob | 2 Comments »

A terrible blow for Angola today with news that winger Gilberto has had a slow recovery from injury and that he is almost certain to miss the World Cup. The 23-year-old sustained an Achilles tendon injury in a preparation match for the African Cup of Nations. Apparently his recovery is going slower than expected and he therefore won’t be healed in time to play in Germany.

This is simply terrible news. Gilberto was a revelation during Angola’s qualifying run, show a speed and skill that might not be equaled on the rest of the roster. Without him charging up the sides, the Angola attack is not going to be the same. At this point I can’t even begin to think who will replace him.

Blahhhhhhh
