Angola through to the second round (CHAN)
Angola beat Mozambique 1-0 in the first qualifying match for the new African championship.
The goal only came on the 92nd minute and was provided by Love Kabungula. The team did not look very impressive and credit to Mozambique who loooked like they could have sneaked in a goal at any point in the match. Mozambique were confident following their 1-1 first leg draw in Maputo.
The good news for the “Palancas” is that midfielder Job looks to be making good progress, and could soon be a key member of the squad.
The bad news is that the team looked very vulnerable without their usual first team players. More work is definately needed!
The Palancas will now face Zambia in the second qualifier. Zambia is likely to be a tougher opponent since a good part of their first team team plays in their country.

Good result, although they left it so late, enough to give anyone cardiac problems:-D.
After the Mozambique game they played against Benfica, in an “exhibition” match but they lost 3-2, however the good news is Mantorras who was playing against is own “conterranos” did enough to convince Mr. Goncalves about his aptitude on the service of the Palancas Negras for “operation Benin”, his first call up since the 06 World Cup. Moreover, the discomforting truth is that Angola will have to do without Manucho as he is aparently injured. This is sad as I believe that he was begining to make good on his ANC form, scoring 4 goals out of 7 games in spite of limited playing time at Panathinaikos.

The only consolation for Manucho’s injury is that at least Mantorras might be given a start. It will also be an opportunity to see what Diangi has to offer.
What I dont understand is how did Manucho manage to get injured if he doesnt play often for Panathinaikos?

Hey kiko,
looks like we spoke too soon because Manu-goal is back and he is in contention for a starting berth at the weekend, which is pretty much guaranteed. Knowing O.G’s history it simply means Mantorras wil get probably 15 minutes game time, if anything at all.
The competition upfront is just too strong…oh how I wish that the same thing could’ve been said of the midfield axis spots.

I hope we do not over look Benin, They can over power us.
