Angola Snowed Under in Korea
Yesterday’s friendly against South Korea was a good learning experience for Angola. Not only did the Palancas Negras get to see what World Cup competition will be like, but they also got to see that unfamiliar white stuff known as snow. “We had two opponents, first Korea and second the snow,” said Angola coach Luis Oliveira Goncalves after the match.
Now I know Goncalves well enough to know that he isn’t suggesting the weather was the reason Angola lost. The man is an honest talker and when his team is outplayed he will say so. That said, the weather was a factor in this one. Snow isn’t something you find in high quantities in Angola and cold weather is generably disagreeable to our players, many of whom came directly from Angola and had only a few days to get used to seeing their own breath.
Throw in a South Korea team playing in front of a roaring crowd and you can see how things ended up 1-0.
The good news is that I have talked with my cousin who is a farmer and knows a lot about weather. He tells me that in Germany in the summer there is very rarely snow. I would have to think this will work to Angola’s advantage. Here’s hoping to a heat wave in Europe all summer long!

Will a heat wave save them? No. Unless of course it is about 40 degrees. Then they might even win the group.
