Angola Player Profile: Flavio Amado

February 18th, 2006 | By: WC Bob | No Comments »

Flavio plays with Angolan flavor. Born under the October sun in 1979, the striker is one of the few Angolan players to play in a country not named Angola or Portugal. Flavio joined his Angolan chum Gilberto at Al-Ahly in Egypt in 2005 after playing for Angolan club Petro Atletico.

Flavio has won his share of awards including the much coveted Player of the Year in the 2002 African Champions League.

In the recent African Cup of Nations in Egypt, he showed his ability by netting a goal against Cameroon and two goals against Togo. He would have scored more but only was held back because Angola was eliminated in group play.

Flavio’s play in the Cup of Nations should send a signal to Angola’s opponents this summer. They better pay close attention to the striker or he will make them pay with his devastating shot. I predict he is going to score the first of three Angolan goals against Portugal and that this will set the tone for the Palancas Negras offensive attack at the World Cup.
