Angola Kicks Butt and Takes Names
Another day, another solid win for the Palancas Negras. Angola defeated Lesotho 3-1 to advance to the semifinals of the Cosafa Castle Cup, which will be played in August. After a scoreless first half, Mateus got the team on the board in the 47th minute. From there the floodgates opened up with Jose Ze Kalanga scoring a pair of goals in the 49th and 61st minutes. A meaningless goal from Lesotho in the 90th minute ended the game.
In the two games this weekend, Angola outscored its opponents 8-2. A pair of solid wins using largely domestic-based players has made me absolutely giddy. I think coach Goncalves had a lot of World Cup roster questions answered this weekend, including the need to include Mateus on the flight to Germany. I look forward to the decisions he makes in the next few weeks!
What a great way to bounce back from a disappointing Cup of Nations.

Nice to see Ze Kalanga making a good game. It means that Edson will now work extra hard to keep his starting place.

Agree that Mateus has to be on the plane. I saw him on TV a couple of times for Gil Vicente: he’s smart, has good skills, and a real attacker’s instinct.

Wow angola was unstoppable this weekend. however it shud b noted tat mauritius and lesotho r weak opponents. so by no means is this a reason for anyone 2 b uber excited.
But wow Ze Kalanga! he really is maturing as a player. Certainly not the same ze kalanga of 2 years ago running around aimlessly in his petro de luanda uniform.
As for Mateus, the man has to go to Germany. Ive been hearing about him ever since he started scoring for Gil Vicente. esp now after i heard tat maurito is out injured and wont make it 2 the world cup. but these r unconfirmend reports.

Did Jose Quitongo make it to the Cosafa Cup in time? I heard there were some problems. Was he left on the bench?
I am a Waterford United fan (for whom Jose played in the mid 90s and again in 2004) and am very keen to know what are his chances of making the World Cup squad. If he does, we will be supporting Angola in Germany.
