Angola’s Asha Banned from World Cup

January 23rd, 2006 | By: WC Bob | No Comments »

Bad new for fans of the Black Antelopes as it was made official today that stalwart defender Yamba Asha will not be allowed to play in the World Cup due to a nine-month doping ban.

Asha tested positive back in October following a qualifier against Rwanda and he is not on the African Nations Cup roster. Angola challenged the ruling but the charges were not dropped.

This is a big loss for the team. Asha was the only player to play in all 12 of Angola’s qualifying matches and has displayed consistent talent at left back. His ability to make forward runs will be especially missed.

I don’t understand how a player can be so stupid to risk his career by doping. Asha has toiled for Angola for years and now he will miss out on our biggest opportunity. This is really disappointing.
