Akwa is Keystone…Perhaps

March 23rd, 2006 | By: WC Bob | 1 Comment »

I came across this very small profile of the Palancas Negras from a paper in the UK. The author seems to think that the key to Angola is Akwa. I’m not going to argue that he isn’t a very important player, but I think the world will come to learn that our team has more than just one player.

Sure we need Akwa to provide leadership at the World Cup and it would be great if he is able to score some goals, but even if he isn’t on form this team can still win. In my opinion, the key is finding someone other than Akwa to have a breakout tournament. Whether it is Mantorras (assuming he even goes to Germany) or Figueiredo or even Love (I wish he would get a chance!), someone needs to come forward and score some goals. Otherwise teams are going to concentrate on shutting down Akwa and I’m not sure he still has what it takes to overcome being double and triple teamed.

Living in london i rarely get a chance to regularly watch our players in action but after watching the african nations i was disappointed that the coach did not partner akwa and mantorras because i think that would be a good partnership!whenever he cones on for benfica the crowd rises to their feet so we need to apreciate our own players!also we need to give our youth a chance to come through!
