World Cup the End for Mantorras

February 1st, 2006 | By: WC Bob | 1 Comment »

Pedro Mantorras is not happy with the limited amount of playing time he received during the African Nations Cup and as a result he says he won’t play for Angola again after the World Cup.

“I am not going to leave my club, Benfica, to represent the Angolan side and then not be used. I won’t accept this lack of respect,” the 23-year-old striker said.

Mantorras only played a total of 59 minutes for the Palancas Negras in three games in Egypt.

Personally I think he needs to suck it up and quit whining. There is no more honor than representing your country, even if that means taking a seat on the bench. Mantorras is still young and has many good years ahead. He shouldn’t burn bridges with the national team and federation. Instead he should be a good teammate and not be selfish.

The Benefica striker has not been happy with his role on the Palancas Negras. We reported a few weeks back that he was considering quitting international football after the World Cup. Now there is some talk that he will skip out on the World Cup altogether. [...]
