US 1 Angola 0
The United States beat Angola 1-0 in a closed scrimmage on Monday. Angola played a man down for the last 70 minutes of the match after Loco picked up his second yellow card. Despite the loss, coach Goncalves was pleased with the overall performance:
“In the second half we dominated most of the game, but in general it was very balanced,” Goncalves said.
Because it was closed to the public and the players did not wear numbers there is an air of mystery about what actually happened. Goncalves wasn’t even able to say who scored for the US.
Hard to take much away from this report with just knowing the score, but hopefully the team played well in its new 4-5-1 formation and it got the necessary preparation for the the upcoming matches that count. Would have been nice to have walked away with a win, but a good team effort is probably just as important.

I’m a fan of Team USA.
Thanks for the report! Two yellow cards in the 1st 20 minutes?!? That’s odd.
It seems like both teams are leaving this match with a positive outlook.
Good luck, and again, thanks!

I’m just glad Angola looks to put up a good fight in the first round. I don’t want to see them get manhandled by the teams in the group. So… way to go Angola and kick some butt next week.

No surprises there. I could have guessed the score before the match was played. I hope the players are all prepared for the match on Sunday.

Wow. Thanks for the update. I think the US is in real trouble if it can’t do better than 1-0.

Best wishes to Angola for a good tournament. It’s clear that they are improving each match after playing the likes of Argentina and Turkey.
But for the US to win only 1-0 when Angola played a man down for 2/3 of the match: this does not bode well. It’s clear the US is struggling to find the net. Too bad 2 of the world’s 3 best keepers are in found in the Czech Republic and Italy.

what makes you think the US played a 4-5-1?

NBlue, I believe Pasha is speaking of Angola’s 4-5-1 formation (The Angola Blog part should have given you a clue). Good luck Angola, and please put El Tri out of it’s misery.

I am sooooo happy this was a closed game…

NBlue - I have no idea what formation the US played. This is an Angola blog so I was referring to our lineup.
Cheers
