Player Profile: Noberto Maurito

March 14th, 2006 | By: WC Bob | No Comments »

At the African Cup of Nations this year, Maurito showed that he has what it takes to contribute to Angola’s World Cup success. The forward drilled the game winner in the final minutes against Togo to help the Palancas Negras defeat their fellow World Cup qualifiers.

Noberto Maurito used to play for Uniao Leiria in Portugal but now he is a member Al Wahda in the United Arab Emirates where he receives praise from his teammates and opponents alike.

Maurito earned his first cap a few years back in a friendly against Morocco that was part of Angola’s preparations for World Cup qualifying. He wears number 15 for the Palancas Negras.

With Akwa, Flavio and Pedro Mantorras all in the mix, Maurito’s playing time is not guaranteed in Germany. But if given a chance, I think he could make a name for himself this summer. He might just prove to be a valuable tool on coach Goncalves bench.
