Defining Success in the World Cup
Earlier this week I asked the question, what would be success for Angola in the World Cup? Thank you to the readers who left their comments. I appreciate your thoughts and hope you are having fun reading this blog. There aren’t many of us Angola fans on the Internet so I love having your guys and gals stopping by and offering your opinions.
Today I will answer my own question. What would be a successful tournament for Angola?
Disaster: Angola loses all three games and isn’t at all competitive. The world sees us as a minnow that got lucky making the World Cup. Odds of this happening: 20%
Near Disaster: Angola loses all three games but is competitive. The team plays hard and gives its opponents a real challenge. The world respects our effort. Odds of this happening: 20%
Minor success: Angola gets a win or tie, but is still eliminated in group play. I see this as the most likely scenario with us getting at least a point against Iran or Mexico. Odds of this happening: 40%
Major success: Angola advances from the group. For this to happen, I think we need to beat Iran, and tie both Portugal and Mexico. Odds of this happening: 15%
Major, major success: Angola advances from the group and then wins its round of 16 game. The world adopts us as their new favorite team and we are the story of the World Cup. Odds of this happening: 4%
Life can end because I am so happy: Angola wins the World Cup. Odds of this happening: 1%

You’re correct. I should have said there weren’t many on the English language boards. Anyway, I’m happy to have you here and hope that you’ll invite some others to join the party. We all need to come together for the Palancas Negras!

I think Angola has all they need to be better than Iran. They could do a great job against Portugal, because african teams, who are faster have proven to be a good team against European teams. I still dont see them advancing to the second round, I take Mexico and Portugal on this question. Good Luck.
