Building on 2006 for 2010
Our World Cup might be over, but I am still exciting about the Palancas so I might chime in with a post or two while the tournament continues. It is great seeing how the players and coaches are responding to their World Cup experience. They see it as a successful start to something better in the future.
“African football is progressing. It’s obvious that we Africans can do more than we’re doing now,” coach Goncalves said. “Each tournament helps us understand that we need to improve technically, need to build infrastructure, improve training. One day the world will realise that Africa has a name to defend.”
I think that day is coming sooner rather than later, especially with the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. I know I will be rooting for Ghana today and for Tunisia tomorrow. Hopefully in four years from now we will all have a chance to root for Angola again.

Fire Goncalves!! It’s stupid to insist on doing something that has never worked to see if it will eventually work. Portugal helped us a lot by scoring two early goals against Mexico….. and as always we were our strongest opponents..

Have you guys read the comments on the Angolan FA website? The fans everywhere are frustrated with Goncalves (its in Portuguese)

Do not forget he got us to the WC… I think firing him would be a great loss for Angolan football… he has made some mistakes and we all do… my hope is he learns from the mistakes he has made… It is not wise to just fire people when they make mistakes… We must stay on course, it will be a long and hard but joy is found in the end, and if given time to correct himself I see him as the father in this new era of Angola Football. we can not rush victory… victory comes we everything is perfect… and that takes TIME and HARD WORK….

Goncalves got Angola to the World Cup - other than the first 5 minutes against Portugal, Angola were as good as any team they played against. If he had played with 2 up front and lost heavily - would he be praised or criticized? Before the tournament, Angola were predicted to be beaten heavily - they nearly qualified for the 2nd round - view the positives and build for the next WC - with Goncalves!

I agree with the comment that Goncaoles should not be fired. He should be invited to retire and start something else.
He has taken our national team to a point that it needs another man to carry on with the job.
Also, our infrastructures need to be upgraded so that the next pool of players are better prepared than the ones we have now
