Black Impalas

March 18th, 2006 | By: WC Bob | No Comments »

Angola’s team nickname is the Palancas Negras, which translates to “Black Impalas.” Some of you might not know much about these beautiful animals so today I thought I would take a break from football and share some information about impala.

According to the African Wildlife Foundation, “The graceful impala is a slender, medium-sized antelope so adaptable that it is found from southern Africa to the northern limits of East Africa.”

Wikipedia says, “Exceedingly agile, impala are capable of leaping over 10 m in a single bound. They are gregarious creatures and are usually found in herds, often a male with many females. Many species of predators eat impala. This fact, and the distinctive M shape on the backside gave the impala its nickname as “the McDonald’s of the African plains”.

Meanwhile, the American car company Chrysler has chosen to give one of its cars the name Impala.
