Angola Wants to Host African Cup of Nations
Angola is one of eight countries competing to be named host of the 2010 African Cup of Nations tournament. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) said today that the host country for Africa’s most prestigious tournament will be named in Septemeber. Angola, Libya, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal and Zimbabwe are all hoping to host the finals along with a joint bid from Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
This would be a wonderful thing for our country, especially since the 2010 World Cup will be in South Africa. It would create jobs and help Angola’s economy, while helping us to improve our stadiums and football infrastructure. I think our bid is a bit of a longshot, but my fingers are crossed that we get it!

This would be good for the future of our game… I hope it happens

Africa is going through a revolution and no longer can the likes of Cameroon, Nigeria, Tunisia, Senegal and South Africa expect an easy passage or even qualification. Togo, Ghana, Angola and Cote d’Ivoire reached the world cup for the first time; leaving Cameroon, Senegal, Nigeria, and South Africa missing out. There is no doubt that the profile of Angola will rise if they are selected to be host of the African Cup of Nations; but can it be a success? Angola are not going to win the African Cup of Nations; so I am a little unsure about Angola’s credibility and also the security instability makes Angola a not so attractive host but there is no doubt Angola will improve in football through being host. Angola does not have the infrastructure at the moment to host such an event.

Angola has money and time to get it done in 2010… The war is history and the security issue are over blown Unita and the Government have no wish to return there(war)… A war that was not ours anyway but cost the lives of our familys… And I think the games would be great in bring the people in Angola closer.

I agree that hosting the African nations will not only improve the team but also create better conditions for football in the country. I know for a fact that they can get everything done by 2010. They will certainly reach the Quarter finals if they host the ACN at least.
