Angola – US Game to be Closed Scrimmage

March 27th, 2006 | By: WC Bob | 2 Comments »

Man, I am bummed about this news. As I posted earlier today Angola is scheduled to play the United States in Hamburg on June 5. It turns out that this friendly won’t be too friendly to the fans of both teams hoping to catch the action. The US Soccer Federation has announced that this will be a closed match played in front of no fans. This seems like a blown opportunity for both countries to treat their fans to some football excitement before the start of the World Cup. I understand that matches require logistics, security, etc., but to me this is a stupid decision.

This can be a good thing for us… No other team will know our formation… on the eve of the big dance… Angola needs to play smart.

There are rules and restrictions for friendly matches scheduled so close to the beginning of the world cup. It isn’t a matter of spectators, security, etc., it’s that FIFA says you can’t have full friendlies right now. Look it up at USSoccer.com
