Angola Image “Tarnished” by CAN Exit

In countries around the world, the media is quick to lay blame following a team’s loss. In Angola, the press is no different.

Memo to Angolan Youth and Sports Minister Jos` Marcos Barrica: Lay off the criticism. The team tried its best but came up just a wee bit short at the African Nations Cup. Perhaps if the Minister would spend more time raising funds for the team and less time throwing stones after losses Angola would be in a better position today.

Unlike Mr. Barrica, I still have faith in Angola this summer and I still feel the pride the team has created in the country. The only thing tarnished is the Angolan Youth and Sports Ministry. And that’s not exactly something new.

Actually Angola has never been such a soccer playing team that its loss at CAN would tarnish its image.

It was always expected…….

Angola should have selected more decent players from their squad instead of the misfiring ones such as Akwa. They left out a player who plays for Leeds united for an old man (45 years old)

Angola were disappointing but did finish the tournament with one win. The Angolans; although not known as a football nation were not expected to be amongst the semi-finalist. Teams like Cameroon and Nigeria are established African teams; Angola has only just burst into the scene and in the years to come could be a challenger for a historic African Cup of Nations. Angola needs more experience and in 12 years the Angolans could hit unprecentance heights in the African Cup of Nations- the 2006 world cup should be an important part in the development in Angolan football.
