Angola Focus on Defense against US

June 5th, 2006 | By: WC Bob | No Comments »

In a little bit of time Angola will face the United States in a scrimmage in Hamburg. After giving up three second half goals against Turkey last week, Angola coach Luis Oliveira Goncalves says the focus for today and the rest of the World Cup preparations is on tightening the defense.

“It’s true that there was a problem of defense. They defended badly, so the defenders are the most to blame,” Angola coach Luis Oliveira Goncalves said. “But it’s not just the defenders. The team as a whole needs to concentrate harder.”

The goal is to be ready for the World Cup opener against Portugal.

“For us, Angola, to face Portugal, it’s true we feel a bit anxious,” midfielder Edson de Jesus Nobre said. “But at the time of the game, we’ll be ready to face them. And in football, sometimes, weaker teams beat stronger teams.”

Hopefully the defense will play much better against the US. I’m not sure if my heart will be able to take it if Angola lets in that many goals during the World Cup. Let’s hope the guys concentrate and get it sorted out today!
