Angola defeat local German team 5-3
The good news is that we scored five goals. The bad news is that we also gave up three goals. On Thursday, Angola defeated a collection of players from Celle, Germany 5-3. The goal scorers for Angola were: Akwa, Mateus (2), Mantorras and Mendonça.
Good to see that Mateus continues to be in excellent form. He might just be an unexpected weapon at the World Cup. Also nice for Mantorras to notch a goal. He could use a boost of confidence after the year he has had in Portugal and with the Palancas.
Even though this game was little more than an opportunity for the players to stretch their legs, I must admit that I am a bit concerned about the three goals we let in. Hopefully coach Goncalves will be stressing a tighter defense in practice before the May 30 game against Argentina.

I am sure their just working out the bad elements the team has…

I heard that Goncalves was happy with the defense even though they conceded 3 goals. An own goal by Jamba and a “frango” by Lama gifted the opponents goals. Goncalves was concerned with the midfield, as he thought that they were not running enough and looked tired towards the last 20 minutes.

The midfield is definitely a worry to me, especially if they are getting tired since there isn’t much depth. Hopefully the players will continue to gain fitness over the next few weeks.

@ Dido: I don’t think J. Ricardo will ever be replaced by Lama, unless he gets injured or suspended (knock on wood). On the other hand, if Jamba is scoring autogoals, we definitely don’t need to play him.
@ Pasha: The midfield has been shown to lack depth. On top of that, Coach G. seems to insist on playing 4-3-3. Could he be trying or practicing a different style of offense in case we find ourselves desperate to score? Coach banked on J. Ricardo; Loco, Kali, Jamba + Marco Abreu; Andre, Figueiredo e Mendonca; Edson, Akwa + Mateus. Then he sub’d in Lama, Titi Buengo, Mantorras + Love Cabungula. What happened to Rui Marques? How about trying to get Akwa and Mantorras to play together? Was trying to find a second offensive rotation?
What are your thought on this, guys?

I think Goncalves is just trying all his squad at this time, looking for the best ways to score goals without conceding.
