Angola Announce Ambitious Friendly Schedule

March 6th, 2006 | By: WC Bob | 9 Comments »

Angola will play four World Cup finalists as it prepares for the tournament in Germany. Get ready Palancas Negras fans, you aren’t going to believe how cool this is.

Between May 19 and June 5, Angola will play fellow finalists Argentina, Australia, Saudi Arabia and Switzerland! The dates and times have not been announced but all I can say is WOW!

Argentina is one of the top teams in the world with a great history. It will be an absolute pleasure seeing our guys play against them.

Australia is an up and coming team with plenty of players who play in Europe. They should give us a good physical challenge.

Saudi Arabia has been in the past few World Cups. Of all the friendlies, this might be the one we can win.

Switzerland in a good European team with a lot of players playing in Germany.

The bottom line is that this schedule will have Angola very well prepared for their group at the World Cup. This is an exciting day.

Thats great news for all Angolans. I wonder how the Angolan FA convinced these teams to play them.

The games will be played in Germany so that makes it easier. Plus all of these teams want to get experience playing an “African” team even though we play nothing like the other teams from Africa.

If they can beat switzerland, Saudi Arabia and draw with Australia, then i think they might even qualify for the knockout stages. But if they lose to Saudi Arabia then they might as well give up as they will just embarrass their country.

[...] Yellow card to our Angola blogger Pasha. Now that Angola’s schedule of friendlies are out we are afraid Pasha might suffer from permanent hyperventilation. Could there possibly be a bigger Palancas Negras fan in the entire universe? Read Full News via World Cup 2006 Blog [...]

[...] I read over on the Angola blog that their football federation has announced that they will be playing the Socceroos in a friendly in Germany before the start of the World Cup. This raises two questions. First, why would Australia want to play an African team that plays nothing like its World Cup opponents? Second, where does this game fit into the friendly schedule already announced: [...]

[...] Credit goes to our eagle eyed reader Andre for noticing that on the official Angola Football Federation website there is a June 2 game listed against Turkey. As far as I know this game was never announced and it looks to me like it will replace the match against Saudi Arabia that was announced back in March. [...]
