Angola was unable to take advantage of playing a man up for more than 70 minutes drawing with Congo 0-0 in African Nations Cup action.

Congo’s Tresor Mabi was sent off in the 18th minute giving Angola an advantage, but the Palancas Negras were unable to convert a number of good scoring chances. Congo keeper Pascal Kalemba came up huge with a pair of class saves against Angola’s captain Akwa.

The tie leaves Angola in a tough position heading into its final group play match against Togo. Angola will need to defeat the Togo and hope that Cameroon defeats Congo in order to advance in the tournament.

Angola played the match without defender Marco Abreu who is out for the remainder of the tournament with an injury.

This is certainly not the way Angola fans hoped the CAN would unfold, but there is still hope that the team will live to see another day.

Here’s a match report.
